Most listing services turn it on by default, but each portal can be switched separately, and each one picks up the listing and shows its details at a slightly different speed.

Why a seller cares
Syndication is how one MLS entry reaches every portal. It is on by default, each site picks the listing up at its own pace, and a wrong detail in the MLS is copied everywhere before anybody notices.

A simple example
Your listing enters the MLS at 9 a.m. It is on one portal by noon, another by evening, and a third the next morning, with a typo in the square footage on all three.
